Once again Israelis and Muslims clash. I both feel sorry and angry with both of them. How can Hamas and Hezbollah think that military clashes can solve their problems? If they really care about the welfare of the people they are suppose to be serving then they have certainly not served them well by picking a fight with a nation that is militarily much stronger and diplomatically they are fools to start the fight.Regarding Israel, they are clearly in an uncomfortable situation. I can even understand their heavy handed treatment of the Palestinians and Lebanese as a version of ‘we didn’t start this fight but we will certainly end it’ as I can’t imagine another country in the world not reacting to the current provocations.
However, their current detainment of a large number of people without justification simply gives additional justifiable fuel to Muslim hatred. The Israelis are not going to solve their problems militarily … they need to be the ‘adult’ in this Middle East family squabble and educate their surly children; Hamas and Hezbollah by treating them fairly even when they throw spiteful temper tantrums. Last year’s exit of Gaza was a great first step. Releasing or charging and holding a trial for all held captives would be a great second step …

I really agree with you there. Things seemed to be going relatively well over the last year in terms of Israel's actions but now they've been put in a really tough position. Refusing to act makes them look weak which in turn encourages their enemies and proves unpopular with many at home; making military moves as they have enflames the situation and strengthens anti-Israel sentiment abroad. They have some justification for their actions in this case but more killing doesn't help anyone. I hope this situation is sorted out before it escalates. With the G8 leaders meeting at the moment surely there is no better opportunity for the international community to get involved in calming things down.In response to Disgust regarding July clashes posted by Julius64:
